I sat across from him as he was talking and thought, “He is fascinated by ideas.”
It’s true. He loves encountering new ideas. He loves talking about ideas. He loves exploring the land of theory and thought. He collects facts, ideas, and concepts as if they are treasured items.
It’s not as if I hate ideas. Quite the contrary. I’m not even sure how we could exist without such an essential element of our lives.
Yet I’m not fascinated by ideas.
I am, however, fascinated by people. By relationships. By experiences. By the interconnectedness of all humans.
So, as I sat across from him while he was discussing the world of ideas, my mind wandered a bit. I wanted to know about him. I wanted to know what made him tick. I wanted to hear about his life, his emotions, his triumphs and his struggles. It’s what I want to hear from most people, I think. It’s what truly fascinates me.
People fascinate me. You fascinate me. I even (and perhaps this is egotistical) fascinate myself.
So, if you sit across from me at a table, you can tell me how you are. I’ll listen.
